Sunday School Questions for October 5

Carry Out God-Given Instructions

Lesson Passage 1 Samuel 13:1-15:35

Share your name with the class and tell us about a mistake you made that you now can laugh about.
Think about the last spiritual battle you fought; did you pray about it before it began? If you didn't, how different would it have gone if you had?
Do you think God takes pleasure when His people boldly and fully obey Him? Is He sad when we don't? Does God really need us to obey Him or can He do without us?
Lost or secular-minded people give little or no thought to pleasing God. Are they any different from a Christian who tries to please God but struggles when it comes to obeying Him?
When is the last time you were in a scary situation...when you truly were fearful? How did you react in that situation? How do you wish you would have reacted?
Take a look at 1Samuel 13:10-11; what excuses did Saul have for being disobedient?
Why do you think Sauls' disobedience was so serious?
Has fear ever led you to make poor decisions or to disobey God? How serious do you think that disobedience was?
Obedience to God...is it hard or is it easy? What kind of instructions from God are difficult? What kind are easy?
Think about this before you answer...does God bless believers more who seek His direction daily and are obedient to Him than those who only seek Him out in times of crisis? Defend your answer.
Someone read 1Samuel 15:7-11 to us. Name three ways Saul and his soldiers obeyed God's command? Using these same verses, what two ways did they disobey?
What commands of God are the most difficult to fulfill completely?
Quickly, someone turn to Colossians 3:5-8 and read it to us. What kind of stuff do you need to destroy or put away from your life?
When a fellow Christian is struggling with temptation, what do you do to help them resist and obey God...or do you do anything at all? What would Jesus want you to do? Are you sure?
Is there a relationship between obedience and reaching one's spiritual potential?
True or false? Obedience matters more to God than any worship rituals?
Does the Lord value attendance at Sunday and Wednesday church services as much as He values personal everyday obedience?
Here's a simple question; what does it mean to obey? Another word we could use would
be "trust". Can we agree that a person who trusts God does what He says? Let's pray.
